Medicare Supplement Insurance is available from many different private insurance companies. Only standardized plans established by the Insurance Commissioners may be offered. This makes it simpler to compare plans. For example: Plan F always has the same benefits regardless of which company sells it; the difference is the premium and level of service.
Medicare Supplement Plan F pays 100% of all deductibles, co-payments and co-insurance, and extends hospital coverage by one year. Original Medicare combined with Medicare Supplement Plan F gives people the highest level of protection. Plan G pays the same as F, except the Part B deductible, which is just $147 for calendar year 2013.
As long as you have Original Medicare, this supplemental insurance can be applied for any time of the year. Unlike Medicare Parts C & D, there are no government restrictions on when you can make changes.
When you first go on Medicare, you can take out a Medicare Supplement without answering health questions and your acceptance is guaranteed. After you have been on Medicare for 6 months, you will have to answer health questions to be accepted, unless you have lost group insurance or a Medicare Advantage Part C plan. But we can help most people regardless of their health. When you change Medicare Supplements, there cannot be a waiting period on pre-existing conditions.
