Wyoming Medicare AdvisorsEven to the most seasoned beneficiary, Medicare remains somewhat of a mystery. It has several moving parts, ongoing enrollment deadlines, seemingly endless options, and constant changes. It’s too much for one person to stay up-to-date with. Fortunately, you don’t have to. Working with a Medicare advisor will ensure you stay informed and always find the Medicare plans that work best for you.

The Importance of Working with a Medicare Advisor

Medicare advisors are a specialized type of health and life insurance agent. They may offer other forms of insurance, but they are experts in the Medicare industry. As a result, they have a deep understanding of how Medicare works and the pros and cons of each type of plan.

Every Medicare broker’s primary goal is to educate new and existing beneficiaries. While they can help guide you in the decision-making process, you’ll need to have a foundational understanding of how Medicare works so you can make the final decisions.

Yes, you can absolutely do all your own research and enroll in Medicare by yourself. However, we caution those who want to do this for many reasons. Unless you are willing to spend hours delving into the details of each plan, you may miss significant details that could have a negative impact on your coverage and on your out-of-pocket expenses.

An advisor will also alert you to important enrollment periods and let you know about any upcoming changes within your Medicare plans. You can’t just “set it and forget it” with Medicare. Plans are constantly changing, and you’ll need to review them at least once every year. In addition, brokers will offer you customer support throughout the year. This means you’ll spend less time on the phone with insurance companies – your advisor can do most of that work for you.

How to Find a Medicare Agent in Wyoming

So, how do you know which Medicare advisor you should work with? Like any other profession, there are some good ones and some bad ones out there. We’ve put together a list of four things you should look for when choosing a Medicare agent.

  1. Choose an Independent Agent

There are two types of insurance brokers: independent and captive. Captive agents represent just one insurance company. They may be excellent at what they do, but they won’t be able to compare rates or benefits to other plans on the market. Independent agents do not have any loyalties to the insurance company. Their only loyalty is to you as their client. Independent agents have contracts with many companies, so they are able to make sure you find the plan that fits your needs and one that offers a competitive premium.

  1. Make Sure They’re Experienced – and Licensed!

We all started somewhere in our professions, but Medicare is a highly intricate topic. You want to work with someone who knows the industry well and has experience working with other clients. A new advisor who has a more experienced support team is also a great option. And, it should go without saying, but make sure your agent is licensed! There are plenty of people offering Medicare advice who do not have the authority to do so.

  1. They Should Be Unbiased

A good Medicare advisor presents all your options, not just the ones they prefer. They should talk to you about Medicare Supplements and Medicare Advantage plans and shouldn’t be “pushing” one over the other. They may have good reasons to suggest a certain plan, but that choice is ultimately your decision.

  1. Work with a Local Agent

The Medicare world has seen a big increase in telemarketers over the last couple of years. The problem is that some telemarketers don’t know the market where you live. Working with a local Medicare agent in Wyoming is helpful because they will know the plans in your area and how well those plans actually work. They’ll understand your providers and which providers accept different plans. Sometimes, telemarketers can do this as well. Just make sure to discuss your local concerns before enrolling.

We might be biased, but we do check all four of these boxes! So, if you’d like to learn more about Medicare or have questions about your current coverage, call and speak with one of our licensed agents today.
