During the months prior to your 65th birthday, chances are good that your mailbox was filled with literature about Medicare and the different options available to you. For someone just aging into Medicare, it can feel very much like swimming in a pool of Medicare Alphabet Soup as you are trying to learn the A-B-C’s of Medicare.
The sample Medicare card above lists the insured’s name, Medicare number, and their Part A and Part B effective dates.
Part A is your hospital insurance coverage (think hospital in-patient care, skilled nursing, hospice, nursing home, or home health care).
Part B is your medical insurance coverage. Part B covers things like:
- Doctor’s visits
- Out-patient services
- Annual wellness visit
- Certain cancer screenings
- Certain lab services
Medicare Part B pays 80% of your approved/covered services.
Still confused please go and get my book Medicare Breakdown, The Alphabet Soup of Medicare. I will discuss how Medicare can be a nightmare to understand. I’ve personally helped over 5,000 Baby Boomers navigate this journey and I hope this book can help you too!
