Alabama Medicare Plans

Along with Alabama Medicare plans are standardized Medicare supplement plans (also known as Medigap plans).

Residents of Alabama are eligible for Medicare supplement plans A, B, C, D, F, G, H, K, L, M, and N.

You can enroll in a Medigap plan at any time of the year. However, it is beneficial to enroll during your open enrollment period.

Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period

Open enrollment for Medicare supplements is during the first six months after Medicare Part B starts.

Alabama Medicare supplement companies are required to approve your application during open enrollment. This means you can have a pre-existing health condition. You are still allowed to apply for a Medigap plan after open enrollment, but you have to pass health underwriting.

Most Popular Alabama Medicare Plans

Medicare Supplement Plans F and G are some of the most popular because of their coverage.

Plan F covers all deductibles and coinsurance that is left over by Original Medicare. However, as of January 1, 2020 no new Medicare enrollees will have access to Medigap Plan F or C. If you were born in 1954 or earlier, you are still be able to enroll.

This means Medigap Plan G will likely overtake it as the most sought-after supplement. Plan G covers all deductibles and coinsurance left over by Original Medicare except Part B’s deductible.

Alabama Medicare Advantage

All Alabama Medicare Advantage, also known as Part C, plans must also follow the same rules set by Medicare. All carriers may only ask one qualifying health question about kidney failure (end-stage renal disease).

As long as you do not have ESRD, you qualify for a Medicare Part C plan in Alabama. You must also live in the plan’s service area.

However, you can only enroll in these plans during certain periods of time.

Your initial enrollment period is when you first become eligible for Medicare. If you decide later in your life that you wish to enroll in Medicare Advantage, there is always an annual election period in early October that runs through the beginning of December.

If you wish to check your eligibility, we can help you determine your status and help you find a suitable plan for your needs.

Medicare Part D

While Original Medicare or Medicare Supplements don’t offer coverage for prescription drugs, there is an option to enroll in Medicare Part D. There are over 29 Part D plans available in Alabama. Medicare Advantage is another option as well. Be sure to talk to a licensed Alabama Medicare agent to help you decide what’s best for your budget and needs.
